I grew up in the heart of the Robertson Valley, a stunning wine region within the Robertson Karoo. This landscape, rich with succulents and bathed in warm, earthy tones, has always been a profound source of inspiration for my work. I’ve long been captivated by the lichen formations on the rocks—natural textures and patterns that seem to tell a story of their own. The vibrant, tactile quality of these formations is mirrored in my pottery, where I explore the relationship between nature and craft.
The interplay of colour and texture in the natural world is mirrored in my glazes, which often form rich, unexpected palettes with each firing. Much like the ever-changing rock surfaces, each piece I create is a unique result of time, heat, and material. My work embraces these surprises, allowing nature’s influence to guide and shape the outcome, creating pottery that feels both organic and individual.
