Field Note 02 · Place

A practice between places

Rotterdam work, with a continuing connection to the Robertson valley and its hard light, fynbos and stone.

Silver-green fynbos leaves and small dried flowers

The work is made in Rotterdam, while an ongoing connection to a family ceramics studio in the Robertson valley, South Africa, gives the practice another horizon.

Fynbos, weathered sandstone and the dry clarity of the Little Karoo are not motifs to copy. They are a way of looking: at muted greens, ochre clay, irregular surfaces and objects shaped slowly by their environment.

That conversation between places keeps the practice open. Each body of work can be practical and intimate, while still carrying a quieter memory of landscape.
